Portal Mayores is a web site about older persons, specialising in Geriatrics and Gerontology, which was created in 2001 as a result of a collaboration agreement between the IMSERSO (Institute of Older Persons and Social Services; Instituto de Mayores y Servicios Sociales) and the CSIC (Spanish Scientific Research Council) and developed in the CCHS (Human and Social Sciences Centre) , to set-up and develop a senior citizens’ information system on the Internet.
Portal Mayores’ main objective is to create a virtual information service, where information and documentation concerning the elderly are collected, organised and published, primarily relating to Spain

The documentation area provides free, full text access to documents concerning social, economic, health, political and social services topics along with bibliographical references for journal articles, monographs and doctoral theses. Furthermore, it provides direct electronic access to a series of specialised electronic journals.

Electronic Bulletin is a monthly publication which offers a variety of information concerning the elderly (conferences and scientific meetings, new discoveries, research grants, news, reviews and recommended articles). Also we offer an audible versión, in podcasting format.
It provides legislative Information concerning senior citizens, at a European, national, regional and local level, applicable in Spain. It contains law reports, defending institutions and bodies, rights and protection of the elderly and legislation on social resources.
Statistical Information on demographic, socio-economic, health and social services aspects, as well as statistical documents, microdata and links to websites containing more statistical information. A special mention should be periodic report on older people in Spain.
Information on the main areas of scientific research recently carried out in Spain concerning any subject related to the elderly: medical, biological, social and economic. It contains projects, who is who in elders research, research centers, agencies and programs of research funding, and related documents.
Information on senior citizens’ health and psycology. This section provides access to information about health and disease, dissemination of scientific information, Clinical Practice Guidelines, FAQs, documents, current news and links.
This section contains information about on nursing homes and community and sheltered accommodation for older persons in Spain, also includes information about day care centers, home help, telecare service and information concerning programmes which senior citizens may attend and take part in different activities, IMSERSO programmes and existing national programmes.
International Information related to international population ageing, with documents written for the Second United Nations World Assembly on Ageing, monographs by countries, international news and international resources directory.
Information about national and international events and announcements (courses, conferences, fellowships,awards, etc.) aimed mainly at professionals.
Information on the different entities (public institutions, associations, academic institutions, companies…) about elders from Spain and abroad.
